Exceptional Childcare Livingston

Following success of our Broxburn branch and large number of children enrolling from Livingston we decided to offer the same high quality service in Livingston at a location where parents and guardians could easily access the main roads and public transport.

Our Livingston branch was an existing out dated nursery and in January 2008, we totally renovated the premises and created another unique childcare facility much to delight of all the existing clients and the Care Inspectorate.

Healthy Eating

Our nursery cook provides the children with a morning snack, two course lunch and afternoon snack. The nursery menu consists of a four week menu rotated on a weekly basis. This is a very healthy menu.

A comprehensive CCTV system monitors all areas internally and externally for the purpose of safety and training; at Wee Gems, we aim to give you a total peace of mind.

Safety

We use a company called The National Health & Safety Company for annual inspection on all aspects of Health and Safety and they constantly update us with all new regulations and requirements.

Baby Room

The Baby Room is designed to accommodate babies from birth to 1 year, holding a maximum of 12 babies a day. The Baby Room is situated in a separate room from the other children in the nursery, which provides a safe and secure environment for your babies. This is well lit with lots of natural light and fresh air available. The room itself is split, with a soft carpet area for your babies to crawl or toddle about safely and a washable non slip floor where the children can have lunch or take part in any messy activities. The staff within the Baby Room plan for daily activities although the majority of the day is taken up by general care routines. We aim to follow any routines which are already established at home as much as possible. Complementing the Baby Room is a sleep area with cots, musical mobiles and soft lighting.

1-2 Years

The 1 – 2’s room can hold a maximum of 18 children and works with a 3 to 1 child to staff ratio. This room is light and spacious with four large windows to let in natural light and ventilation overlooking our tranquil garden. The windows are also at child level so the children can observe anything going on in our nursery garden. The room is run by a well experienced co-ordinator and a team of practitioners. This room consists of a hard messy floor area which allows the children to have sand play, water play and opportunity for lots of messy activities. The soft carpet area allows opportunity for the children to be involved in role play; music and construction. This room has ample space for climbing frame; slides and other physical activities. A keyworker system is in place ensuring continuity of care. Activities are set out reflecting children’s interests, real life experiences and stage of development.

2-3 Years

The 2 -3’s area is situated in our brightly decorated rooms with lovely views of our gardens. This is a 20 place room with a child to staff ration of 4 to 1. The room is run by a co-ordinator who is supported by a well experienced team, all of whom have their own key group of children. The cabin is bright and well ventilated with large windows on both sides providing an abundance of natural light. Double doors lead out to the garden area giving opportunity for spending lots of time exploring the outdoor area. All activities are set out reflecting children’s interests, real life experiences and stage of development. The staff within the 2-3’s will give you all the help and support required for potty/toilet training.

Pre School

The preschool room follows Curriculum for Excellence which supports children to become confident individuals, effective contributors, successful learners and responsible citizens. Just like our other rooms, activities and experiences reflect children’s interests, real life experiences and stage of development. The room has several different areas within in it to promote curiosity, inquiry and creativity. The literacy area is an area within the nursery the children can practice their mark making, writing, name recognition and drawing skills with a variety of materials and resources. The numeracy area can help the children with counting and simple maths skills by using equipment that they can sort, match, weigh and measure. The preschool children have daily use of technology to support and develop the children’s knowledge and understanding of the evolving world. The messy area is a large area within preschool where the children can be expressive, the children can enjoy: gluing, painting, playdough, clay, scissors, glue, sand and water. The other areas within the nursery include a science area where the children can experiment and learn about the world around them.

Outdoor Area

The outdoor area is full of adventure and every day will be different due to the landscape, design and resources. We have a mud kitchen, water wall, fairy garden, mini beast discovery, play equipment and an outdoor classroom, all there to facilitate learning outdoors. We have a separate under 2’s garden, resourced with age and stage appropriate play equipment for our younger children to explore and enjoy being outdoors. Ideally located within a busy community, we often take the children to the Play Park, library, shops, nature reservoir and train station on short walks. All our children take part in a ‘Healthy Start’ at the beginning of each session in nursery, ensuring fresh air and exercise daily.

We have the longest opening hours and we offer an all-inclusive service; which means we offer a better deal than our competitors. We try to accommodate each individual child in order to meet their parent’s timetable. A 5% sibling discount will be available to the oldest child’s fees. We offer free settling sessions.
